Kalu on Arise Television on Thursday said that those who want to destroy him are jealous because he made money at a young age and he also wants to be president.
He said, “There is a lot of jealousy in the system. A lot of people think that I became successful at a very young age; they wonder why I must have money and power. These people put me in prison for six months for doing nothing.
“They are Nigerians who want to be President. They are Nigerians who want to destroy me. In 1991 I used to go and see Alex Ibru. I have an office in Apapa where I was doing my shipping business. I was importing sugar, rice and a lot of other things.
While responding to the question of his qualification to be president when the corruption charges against him will be coming up in court in March this year, the lawmaker said, “I don’t have any charges hanging around me. It is the press that interprets what is called charges and I am not supposed to talk about the matter in court. I didn’t go to court press for charges but to ask that some of my assets be released. The matter is in court and I won’t want to discuss it further.
“I bankrolled all the money that politicians paid in my days in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). I was the one who brought the money to the party, so how can I become a thief suddenly? People are pursuing me because they know that I want to be president.
“I have a lot of respect for our judicial system and it won’t be good to talk about it here. It will amount to looking down on that arm of government. I am in one arm of government and I wouldn’t like anyone to look down on the legislative arm of government,” the former governor said.
